Trio from Yorkville commits to Waubonsee

Three key performers from Yorkville High School's Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference Championship tennis team have signed letters of intent to play for Waubonsee Community College in 2014. Jace Steller, Joseph Runkle and Steven Pommier all recently agreed to compete for the Chiefs next season.

The Foxes' number one singles player in 2013, Steller qualified for sectionals en route to helping lead Yorkville to an undefeated (9-0) Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference title. An accomplished musician off the court and an Honor Roll student in the classroom, Steller was also a member of Yorkville's golf team the last three years.

Runkle is a two-time Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference champion, winning a singles title and a number two doubles crown with playing partner Eddie Arnold this past season on their way to posting a 24-5 record. A four-year letter winner in tennis, Runkle also brought home several medals from the Lincoln-Way Invite and the Yorkville Doubles Shootout during his prep career.

Pommier was also an integral part of the Foxes' tennis program the last four years, teaming up with Tom Asauarachan the last two years at number two doubles. The duo went 18-10 this past season and finished second in the conference, earning All-Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference honors while helping the Foxes go 17-0 in dual action.

"To build a successful program, you need to have a solid foundation," states second-year Waubonsee head coach Liston A. Fahie, Jr. "And these three give us that. They are all good players from a winning program. I expect big things from them the next two years."
