Chiefs close out regular season

(Grayslake, IL.) – Waubonsee Community College's women's basketball team closed out the regular season on a down note. The Chiefs fell 73-61 to the College of Lake County on the road to finish 22-8 overall and 9-5 in Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play. The Lancers (25-5, 12-2) led at halftime 38-34 and had a 46-42 lead with just two minutes remaining in the third quarter. Lake County then quickly put together an 8-0 run to close out the period and extend their lead to 12 points. Waubonsee could not get any closer than nine points the rest of the way. The Chiefs will find out Sunday evening who their opponent will be in the opening round of the Region 4 Division II Tournament set to begin next Wednesday, February 25.

Waubonsee's Niallie Evans led all scorers with 22 points to go along with five assists and three steals. Makayla McNally booked a double-double with15 points and 13 rebounds, while Samantha Kerry came off the bench to score a dozen points. Josie Larson chipped in with nine points, and Danielle Bulson grabbed seven boards and dished out four assists. Waubonsee shot just 14 percent from the field in the third quarter and was out rebounded 42-32 overall in the game. The Chiefs also shot just one free throw in the entire contest as the Lancers held a 13-1 advantage from the foul line. Lake County finished the game shooting 49 percent from the floor overall, including 52.6 percent from three-point range.
