Karla Vietinghoff embarks on her fifth season as the Chiefs’ Assistant Coach. In her first season she helped lead Waubonsee to a share of the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) title. As a volunteer assistant coach during the 2015-16 season she helped direct the Chiefs to an undefeated ISCC title, the Region IV crown and an 11th place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.
Vietinghoff is a 2011 graduate of Hampshire High School where she played soccer, golf and basketball, earning All-Fox Valley Conference honors on the court her senior year. She then became quite familiar with Waubonsee’s program as a Chiefs’ student-athlete the next two years. Vietinghoff was an All-ISCC First Team performer, averaging 11 points and seven rebounds per game in the Chiefs’ well-balanced offense during her freshman year. The following season she was averaging 14 points and six boards per contest before suffering a season-ending ACL injury after just 10 games.
Vietinghoff made a full recovery and played the next two seasons at Iowa Wesleyan University where she excelled on the court. She was a two-time United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) First Team All-American, leading the Tigers to back-to-back NAIA Division I National Tournament berths. Vietinghoff was also named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Player of the Year both seasons, leading the Tigers to a league title and a runner-up finish, while going a combined 32-3 in SLIAC games during that span. Vietinghoff holds the Tigers’ record for made three-point baskets in a game with 10. In addition, she is third all-time in career three-point field goal percentage at 40.6 percent, fifth in career free throw percentage at 82.0 percent, and is sixth in career three-point baskets made with 127. She was named to the SLIAC All-Decade Team in 2020.
Vietinghoff majored in Psychology and Education Foundations, graduating in May of 2015 with a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa Wesleyan. She served a season as Girl's Freshman and Sophomore head coach for Hinckley-Big Rock High School. Vietinghoff is currently a Technical Recruiter at Solution Partners in Naperville and resides in Aurora.
