(Dixon, IL.) - Waubonsee Community College's men's and women's Cross Country runners competed at the Sauk Valley Community College Invite over the past weekend. One of two events the Chiefs are participating in before the Region 4 Meet at the end of October, coach Eric Baron's crew continued to improve their times across the board. On the women's side the Chiefs' four runners each turned in their best times of the season despite the unseasonably 80-plus degree temperatures. Alexandra Lemke placed 15th covering the women's 5K race course in a time of 24:26. Emma Perry crossed the line in 21st place with teammate Katharine Ball right behind her in 22nd place and Imisioluwa Adekoya coming in 25th overall. North Central College took the top five spots in the women's race, booking a perfect team score of 15.
Marcos Corral paced the men's team by placing 17th overall covering the 8K course across the Skyhawks' campus in a time of 28:51. Russell Abner and Luis Baez were not far behind as they crossed the finish line 21st and 22nd, respectively. Marco Silva placed 24th and Angel Huerta came in 29th as the Chiefs compiled a team score 39 overall, well back of the North Central College pack which tallied a perfect score of 15. Daniel Strnad finished 30th, Lucas Fiedler was 34th and Ryan Hendrix 39th to round out Waubonsee's contingent. Waubonsee is set to compete in the Bradley University Pink Invitational on Friday, October 17 at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria. The Chiefs will be hosting the Region 4 Meet on Saturday, October 25, at Settler's Hill Cross Country Course in Geneva, vying for the opportunity to qualify for the NJCAA Division II National Championship Meet in Iowa on November 8.
